Samsung’s S60 GPS phone, the SGH-i550 which has been rumoured for some ever and was recently spotted at the IFA show in Berlin has now been officially announced. The i550 boasts an imposing stipulation with a built in GPS, 3.2 megapixel coupŠ¹-focus camera, HSDPA connectivity, and a 3.5mm audio jack which suggests it will be positioned against the N95 as a multimedia all rounder. The i550 runs S60 3rd Issue Drawn in Band 1 (Symbian OS 9.2) which includes the sponsor variation of the S60 browser, Coruscate Lite 2.0 supporter and a strain of UI refinements. A key advertise of the i550 is the built in GPS. It is not plain whether there will be any accompanying software although theoretically the i550 should run any of the numerous GPS / Pilotage software ready for S60 including Nokia Maps.
The i550 is a WCDMA (2100Mhz) and tri-team up GSM phone (900/1800/1900 MHz) with GPRS, Tense and HSDPA for statistics connectivity. USB 2.0 (via mini USB) and Bluetooth 2.0 (including A2DP and AVRCP) produce peculiar connectivity options.
